The Coffee Wars - Competing Campaigns

I recently spotted this ad campaign by Starbucks on a bus kiosk. I thought it was a nice use of typography (I am a huge fan of the slab serif) and a good play on the organic look. But as I delved deeper into the messenging I found out that these posters are in response to some ad campaigns by the competition - McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts who have been eating into Starbucks share of the market as well as capitalizing on heightened cost savings.

Packaging Design Beer

I came across this packaging while I was at a grocery store in California. They had a beautiful display of all of the six packs stacked up. It was really impactful. Kona Brewing is based in Hawaii and fittingly they use elements from vintage Hawaiian posters for their packaging and labels.

Packaging Design New York

I found this great package design by New York based Bearwood & Co. for the Savannah Bee Company. I have never been to Savannah but this package design captures the essence of how I imagine it. I am always a huge fan of botanical illustrations but my favorite part of this package are the bee's. I like the fact that they are not on the label but printed directly on the jar. it feels like they are literally flying off.

Rebranding Design

I read this article in the New York Times last weekend and thought I would share it with you. The article talks about the rebranding of some major companies including Walmart, Kraft, Stop & Shop and more. All of the brands shown here have gone for a more approachable feeling. The heavy all uppercase type faces being replaced by sleeker lower case type. And the colors are much more punchy and cheerful. To read the full article visit New York Times.

Smartfood Packaging

I recently spotted this new packaging by Frito Lay at the grocery store. The packaging is decidedly targeted at women like me. I like the type treatment and the overall look and feel. It definitely sold me on trying the product. I am glad that Frito Lay is moving in a more modern direction.
