I am doing a logo project for a new fashion line and I want to incorporate some vintage style hand lettering into the logo. Here are some cool pieces I found while doing research for the project.

I am graphic designer located in New York and I offer a wide range of graphic design services. I have worked with small businesses, creative agencies and Fortune 500 companies alike. I am available for freelance design services including; logos, brochures, packaging, branding, websites, and more.

Urban Omnibus, a brooklyn-based blog shared this project with me by designer Candy Chang and Sean Basinski of the Street Vendor Project. The goal was to create an educational resource for vendors that clarifies the rules and their rights when confronted by police officers. Creating information graphics, I think can be really challenging. But this team did a great job illustrating all of the information the vendors would need to know in a dynamic and informative way. The project took over five months and the Street Vendor Project now uses and distributes these posters as an information tool.

I was recently at the grocery store and spotted this new product called Kashi U. Which is a new initiative by Kashi representing the of five body systems: Heart, Immunity, Bone, Digestion & Mind. While I usually am a fan of the craft paper look, and feel that craft paper can signify 'ah natural' for the Kashi cereal package it comes off as un-appetizing to me. Although I do like the overall playfulness of the U and the color combinations.

Yellow Owl Workshop was one of the companies at the New York Stationery Show that was doing some really different stuff. I really liked this LCD line.

I had the pleasure of attending the New York stationery show yesterday. Even though the event was somewhat smaller this year. It was still completely overwhelming. I unfortunately left my bag of cards and brochures at the place I had lunch so now I have to go by memory of some of my favorite exhibitors. Old School Stationers was one of my favorite booths. Portland based Brian Reed does a lot of the illustrations by hand, that is why they feel so original. I really like the retro feel of the camping collection and the whimsical bird collection.

I was recently at Anthropologie, one of my favorite places for design inspiration. I loved all of the things they were doing with letters.

Here are some photos of David Stark's table at the DIFFA Dining By Design last weekend. DIFFA Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS does this fundraiser every year where they invite event designers and interior designers to decorate tables and serve dinner. They do the event in several cities including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. I love the paint by numbers theme and the summer camp like setting of David Stark's room.

I was recently at the Brooklyn Museum and saw this great exhibit by artist Sun K. Kwak. The exhibit is made completely from black masking tape. I think Sun's idea has a lot of potential for event design and lobby spaces because it is removable and can serve as a really cool temporary installation. Sun K. Kwak is a New York based artist and the title of the exhibit 'Enfolding 280 Hours' is the estimated amount of time the exhibit took to make. March 27 - July 5th.

Twitter has been gathering momentum, especially in 2009. More companies are seeking to promote their services and keep open lines of communication with their customers and other industry professionals. The default twitter layout does not give you many options for customization, however I can help you develop a look and feel for your twitter page that matches your company, blog or individual style.
Above are some cool examples to get your creative juices flowing.

Snapple, has undergone the most significant makeover in its 37-year history. Snapple has a new formula, reduced calories and packaging that promotes the blend of healthy green and black teas.
Snapple is focusing more on the fact that premium teas are used to make the product. The new formula uses sugar as a sweetener instead of corn syrup, and reduces the calories in some cases up to 20 percent. The new packaging reflects these traits of the product, with a thinner sleeker bottle, and a more airy label and logo design. The new packaging has just recently hit the shelves at stores. I think the re-branding and new packaging are successful. I especially like the large S engraved on the bottle.
I had the pleasure of attending the Design on a Dime Benefit last night. The event was sponsored by Sears and Kmart and cochaired by Parker Posey and James Huniford. The event featured 50 room "vignettes" decorated by designers. New and vintage furniture and hosewares from the vingettes was sold at 60-80% off. There were some amazing deals to be had! And all of the proceeds went to Housing Works' facility the Stand Up Harlem House for low-income individuals and families affected by HIV and Aids. Overall the event was a lot of fun and a great success! Here are some photos I took at the event.

I finally got around to renting Helvetica the Movie. I felt like a total design dork watching it. I am rather surprised that this movie has found a main stream audience. I am glad it has been so widely watched, because it gives people a look behind the curtain at all the things us designers are doing...hopefully people will have a new found appreciation for the art form.
Shown: Posters and promotions for the movie.
For many small businesses designing a website is a huge expense. And websites can be very expensive to design and program from scratch. For some business it is a necessity because they require unique functions. However, I have been recommending to some of my clients who have smaller budgets to use a Wordpress Blog as their website. I can create a customized Wordpress blog for you that will have many of the same functions as a regular website and the best part of using Wordpress is it is easy to update the content, link and photos. Contact me at design@caseycoyle.com to learn more about this service.
